Announcement for Director's Chair #23

The LAMBs in the Director's ChairEvent #23 starring
John Landis

Submission Deadline

Hey everyone, it is D.J. Heinlein from the blog site Matte Havoc. We have hit the magical number of installment number twenty-three of The LAMBs in the Director’s Chair series (it's a personal favorite number of mine and all). Does your dedication to The Blues Brothers run deep? Can you perform every dance move from Michael Jackson’s Thriller to the tiniest of details? Or maybe you are the type of person who wears a bed sheet around your body while chanting “toga” over and over to your friends. If you admit to being a person who can identify to any of these statements then you will enjoy the next installment of the Director’s Chair series where we will take a close look at the directorial career of John Landis!

Now for those of you who have never participated in this event before I would like to present the basic list of instructions and rules for participation in the series. The golden guideline would be that all participants must be a current member of the LAMBs or at least on the waiting list for approval to become a member. The second guideline of participation in the series would be for everyone to write and publish an article about the candidate who has been selected for the event. The focus of every article must stay within the arena of the person’s career as a movie director. The third and final item on the list of guidelines is an uncompromising rule of meeting the deadline for submission. Every article that you would like to submit for the event must be e-mailed to DJ Heinlein [ mattehavoc@gmail.com ] by 10 PM the night before the first day of the event. If you would like to submit an article that you published a couple of months or years ago I will accept them for participation in the event. Make sure to include a direct URL link to every article that you would like to submit. There is no minimum or maximum number of articles that can be submitted.

On a side note I usually ignore e-mails filled with explanations and plans of publishing an article for the event. My inbox fills up very quickly with submissions for this event and I might over look a submission by accident if I am spending time deleting e-mails that are filled with explanations about future publishing instead of valid and direct links to articles that are already available online. The best way to get involved in the series is to publish the article and then submit the link by e-mail. No explanations are necessary.

If you have any questions about the event you can e-mail them to me and I will respond as quickly as possible. Listed below are a few promotional graphics that you can post on your blog site to help promote the event. Have fun and knock yourself out with your reviews and editorials.

The Director's Chair suggestion box

Hi, everyone! I am looking for your suggestions of movie directors that would be a nice addition to the list of candidates for The LAMBs in the Director’s Chair series. The types of names that I am interested in adding to the series list should meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Has a healthy list of movie titles that are review worthy; min. 4 titles.
  • A recognizable name for the majority of the LAMB writers.
  • May wear multiple production hats, but must have a substantial amount of directorial credits; minimum four titles.
  • Someone who inspires you to write and submit several reviews and/or career editorials about his or her career.

List your suggestions in the comments below, because this might spark a thought bubble for the other LAMB members to add even more director’s names to the list.

The LAMBs in the Director's Chair #22

The LAMBs in the Director's ChairEvent #22 starring
Woody Allen

He is a small framed man, wears a pair of thick framed eye glasses, rattles out a lengthy list of self-deprecating Jewish humor without showing any signs of slowing down, and appears to be successful with getting a foot in the door with a lot of beautiful women. When the name of Woody Allen crosses my mind, I immediately conjure up cinematic images from Annie Hall, Mighty Aphrodite and Manhattan as a representation of his on screen persona. Allen is more than just a neurotic persona, of course, as demonstrated by the repertoire of movies that he has written, directed, and starred in. Humorous storytelling would be his strong point and a love for his home state of New York demonstrates his vulnerability. Several writing members of The Large Association of Movie Blogs have sent in their articles about Allen’s career as a film director. It can be a challenge to write about his career as a director when he is heavily involved as a writer and actor in addition to his role as the movie director. All of the submissions have been linked below for your reading enjoyment. In addition to the written articles there are a couple of LAMB members who had partnered up to produce a podcast episode with an emphasis on Allen’s career. To listen to the episode just follow this link to the description page.

LAMBcast #94: Woody Allen

Just in time for tomorrow's latest addition to the LAMBs in the Director's Chair series, the LAMBcast tackles the career of Woody Allen. Dylan, Sam, Dan Heaton, Alex and newcomer Danny Reid dug deep and attempted to rattle around the brain of the neurotic writer-director-actor-institution. We talked up and down the guy so much that we skipped out on the usual format and ditched Rants and Raves of the Week, though of course we saved some time for a couple games of Last LAMB Standing.

If you're interested, you too can be a LAMBcaster - we love new blood! For more information on the LAMBcast, check out the topic at the LAMB Forums. Music provided royalty-free by Kevin MacLeod's Incompetech website. Big thanks to Kevin for providing this service. The LAMBcast loves feedback, too. Either here in the comments section or to dylan@manilovefilms.com or to our Facebook page. Also, we're on iTunes, and would still love a review, even if it's a bad one.

Thanks for listening!

We will be focusing upon the cinematic king of comedic self-deprecations for the twenty-second installment of The LAMBs in the Director’s Chair series and I am sure you will be able to find his movie in every video rental house in the world. Hey everyone, it is D.J. Heinlein from the blog site Matte Havoc. The time has arrived for the announcement of the twentieth installment of the LAMBs in the Director’s Chair series. Film director Michael Mann is the name behind several recognizable movies such as The Last of the Mohicans (1992), Heat (1995), The Insider (1999), and Ali (2001). It will be fun for a lot of the LAMB members to watch these films for the first time or the twentieth time. For those who would like to participate in the event can approach the films in order to write a review or maybe as a way to approach the process of writing about Mann’s entire career; the choice is yours.

The LAMBs in the Director's Chair #19

The LAMBs in the Director's ChairEvent #19 starring
David Cronenberg
August 25, 2011

Movie director David Cronenberg is not afraid of genre hopping between the different styles of storytelling. In the early part of his career he will be remembered as the genius behind the popular horror films as Rage, Scanners, and The Fly, but he did not stay within the world of horror filmmaking for very long. As his career matured he moved into the world of real world stories that peaked into the dark corners of human psychology with films such as Crash (1996), Eastern Promises, and A History of Violence. Within the nineteenth installment of The LAMBs in the Director’s Chair series there are several reviews spanning across all the different genre bending films that Cronenberg has directed. Alongside the film reviews are a couple of editorials about his movie making career.

Director's Chair #19 Announcement

David Cronenberg

Submission Deadline
10 PM on August 24, 2011

Submit all articles to...

Hey everyone, it is D.J. Heinlein from the blog site Matte Havoc. The time has arrived for the announcement of the nineteenth installment of the LAMBs in the Director’s Chair series. The event will be kept as simple as possible, like what was done for the last few installments of the series, by listing the URL links to all of the submissions in a single published article instead of spread across a few days worth of published articles. The candidate for the upcoming installment is a cult classic film director (in my opinion) David Cronenberg. All of the articles that can be submitted may cover any topic about his career as a director. If you would like to send in a bunch of reviews for his films or maybe a couple of editorials about how the behind-the-scenes controversy he has faced in real life may have influenced his artistic work. Approach the topic with any method or form of inspiration that works for you as long as you stay relevant to the topic of his career as a director and his film work.

The LAMBs in the Director's Chair #18

The LAMBs in the Director's ChairEvent #18 starring
Roman Polanski
July 22, 2011

The late '70s was rocky road in Roman Polanski's personal life when he was arrested and brought to court for charges of sexual abuse against a minor. For many people this will be the only thing they might remember about him. Personally, I will remember him for the films that he directed such as Rosemary's Baby (1968), Chinatown (1974) and The Ghost Writer (2010). For the eighteenth installment of The LAMBs in the Director's Chair we will be having a closer look at the films he directed during his career. Here are the articles that have been submitted for the series, I hope you enjoy reading them.

Hey everyone, it is D.J. Heinlein from the blog site Matte Havoc. My apology for such a late notice with the announcement of the candidate for the next Director’s Chair installment, but I was a bit distracted with my preparations for the San Diego Comic-Con which is just around the corner. For the eighteenth installment of the LAMBs in the Director’s Chair series I will be keeping everything as simple as possible, like what was done for the last installment, by listing the URL links to all of the submissions in a single published article.
