Director of Korea's all-time box-office monster flick, “The Host” (2006), and the now cult classic serial-killer mystery, “Memories of Murder” (2003), Bong Joon-ho is return with his new oeuvre that will push the boundaries of Korean cinema even further. In his hard-hitting new crime drama, simply titled “Mother,” the lead character is not a detective but a devoted and determined mom. It’s absolutely differing from most thrillers which usually boasts a lineup of younger male actors, Korean veteran actress Kim Hye-Ja plays the role of a distressed mother, when her son is accused of a horrible murder in their neighborhood, her maternal instinct forces her to conduct her own investigation, one that will uncover dangerous secrets as she unravels the mysterious truth. Slated for release in May this summer, director Bong hopes to explore the unconditional love that all mothers have for their children.
